Credit unions — how complaints work

Checked 2026-10-12. Every point links to its source. “Reported by customers” marks an anecdote from a forum: a tactic to try, not a fact to quote.

In short

Credit union members have the same federal card and transfer rights as bank customers: a prompt error notice for debit card and electronic transfers, and a written billing-error notice within 60 days for credit cards. If the credit union does not fix a problem, the NCUA's Consumer Assistance Center takes complaints about federal credit unions, but it first gives the credit union 60 calendar days to resolve it; the CFPB also accepts complaints. Check whether the credit union is federally insured, since some state-chartered credit unions use private insurance. Credit unions, like banks, do not ask you to move money to protect it or to share sign-in details or one-time codes.

1. Set it up (needs uv):

uvx escalate-anything setup

2. Ask your agent:

My problem with [company]: [what happened, with dates and amounts]. Use Escalate Anything to get it resolved.
