Airlines — how complaints work

Checked 2026-10-12. Every point links to its source. “Reported by customers” marks an anecdote from a forum: a tactic to try, not a fact to quote.

In short

When an airline cancels or significantly changes a flight, you can take a cash refund to the original form of payment instead of the rebooking or voucher it offers, whatever the cause. A voucher is your choice, not the airline's. Complain to the airline in writing first, then file with the U.S. DOT, which sends your complaint to the airline and requires a reply. Report bag problems at the airport before you leave: some domestic deadlines are only 4 to 6 hours. Call only the numbers on the airline's own website, app or ticket, because fake airline numbers appear in search results.

Let your AI agent handle this

Escalate Anything is a free, open-source MCP server for Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI, Codex and other AI apps. Your agent gets this playbook, keeps a case log with reference numbers and follow-up dates, and drafts each message for you to approve.

1. Set it up (needs uv):

uvx escalate-anything setup

2. Ask your agent:

My problem with [company]: [what happened, with dates and amounts]. Use Escalate Anything to get it resolved.
