Steps

  1. Start a return through My Verizon, customer service or a Verizon store within 30 days of purchase. Returning a device does not cancel service.

PhoneVerizon customer service (speak to an agent) +1-800-922-0204
  2. Mail a trade-in device within 30 days. The credit is applied after Verizon receives the device.

  3. For Fios or home internet equipment, return it within 30 days after cancellation and keep the receipt.

  4. If charged for returned equipment, send the tracking number and ask for removal. Then use the Notice of Dispute form.

  2. Retention team

Verizon says to call Customer Service before disconnecting to see if you qualify for additional offers.

  3. Supervisor

PhoneVerizon customer service (speak to an agent) +1-800-922-0204

Verizon's arbitration FAQ says you can ask to speak to a Supervisor.

  4. Written complaint

Starts the 60-day period before arbitration. Use the wireline form for Fios.

  5. Federal regulator

  6. State agency

Your state’s attorney general. Find it in the list of state agencies (also as JSON: states/<code>.json, for example states/ny.json).

  7. Arbitration

If not resolved within 60 days of the notice, file with the AAA, or bring an individual small claims action.

Watch out

  • Cancellation and number transfers need the Account Owner (or an Account Manager for transfers), with the Account PIN or the last 4 SSN digits.
  • Generating a Number Transfer PIN online needs sign-in to My Verizon on a standard monthly account.
  • Verizon's contact page and main customer agreement page block automated fetches; the support-path agreement page works.

1. Set it up (needs uv):

uvx escalate-anything setup

2. Ask your agent:

I returned my Verizon equipment on [date] and they still charged me. Use Escalate Anything to get the charge removed.
