Moving a phone number to another carrier: what to do
The carrier blocks or delays a number transfer, or the transfer PIN does not work.
Have this ready
- account number
- number transfer PIN
- the new carrier's port request reference
Steps for any company
Get the number transfer PIN from the current carrier's account page or app. Give it only to the new carrier.
If the port fails, ask the new carrier for the rejection reason, then fix the account details with the current carrier.
If the current carrier refuses or delays without reason, file a complaint with the FCC.
A company playbook below replaces these generic steps with the company’s own forms, phone numbers and deadlines.
