Steps
For a home, renters or condo claim, confirm which partner insurer wrote the policy. That insurer, not GEICO, decides the claim.
Ask the adjuster in writing, through the claim portal, for the reason and the policy language. For a total loss, ask for the valuation report and the comparable vehicles used.
Send your own evidence and ask for a re-evaluation.
If you still disagree about the amount, check the policy for an appraisal provision and invoke it.
File a complaint with your state insurance department.

Facts you can cite
- Process
GEICO bases a total-loss actual cash value on factors that include recent sales prices of similar vehicles in your area, mileage, features, add-ons, modifications and prior damage. It tells customers to ask the assigned adjuster about their state's total-loss rules.

Watch out
- Claim tracking and secure messages need sign-in.
- GEICO homeowners, renters, condo and flood policies are written by partner insurers; GEICO cannot decide those claims.
- Phone hold times are long; GEICO steers customers to the app and website.
