Duke Energy: billing error
Dispute the bill with Duke first, keep paying undisputed amounts, then go to the state commission.
What does this mean?
Grade A (high: almost everything comes from official pages read directly). 100% of 47 sources are the organization's own pages or government sites.
Collect
- the bill
- meter readings shown on the bill
- earlier bills for comparison
- notes of each call with date and name
Steps
Call customer service for your operating company. Ask whether the bill used an actual or an estimated reading, and ask for a correction.
Use the number for your own operating company. Each one is a separate channel in this file.
If you think the meter is wrong, ask for a meter test and ask what it costs.
Keep paying the part of the bill you do not dispute. Duke's South Carolina tariff says a claim against Duke cannot be set off against money owed for service.
If Duke does not fix it, ask for a supervisor, then complain to the state utility commission.
