title: Uber — how complaints actually go

## In short

Uber has no customer service phone line for riders; every ride or Uber Eats problem goes through Help in the app or on help.uber.com while signed in. Dispute a wrong charge there within 30 days, or Uber's Terms say you waive the right to dispute it later. End Uber One in the app (Uber One, Manage Membership, End Membership) before the cycle renews. The FTC and 21 states plus DC are suing Uber over Uber One sign-ups and cancellation; the case is pending.

## How complaints actually go

- Uber says it does not offer a customer service phone number for riders; riders sign in to get personalized support. [Uber Help: riders](https://help.uber.com/riders)
- Uber's Terms ask you to report or dispute a charge through the Help tab within 30 days after the charge, unless the app gives a different timeframe; otherwise you waive the right to dispute it later. [Uber U.S. Terms of Use](https://www.uber.com/legal/en/document/?name=general-terms-of-use&country=united-states&lang=en)
- Before arbitration, the Terms require written notice to Uber's Legal Department and an informal dispute resolution conference within 60 days after the notice is received. [Uber U.S. Terms of Use](https://www.uber.com/legal/en/document/?name=general-terms-of-use&country=united-states&lang=en)
- In April 2025 the FTC sued Uber, alleging Uber One enrollments without consent, charges before free trials ended, and a cancellation path of up to 23 screens and 32 actions, in violation of the FTC Act and ROSCA. [FTC press release, April 21, 2025](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2025/04/ftc-takes-action-against-uber-deceptive-billing-cancellation-practices)
- On December 15, 2025 the FTC, 21 states and the District of Columbia filed an amended complaint seeking civil penalties under ROSCA and state laws; the court will decide the case. [FTC press release, December 15, 2025](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2025/12/ftc-states-file-amended-complaint-against-uber-deceptive-billing-cancellation-practices)

## What tends to work

- Open Help in the app, select the exact trip or order, and report the charge problem inside the 30-day window. [Uber U.S. Terms of Use](https://www.uber.com/legal/en/document/?name=general-terms-of-use&country=united-states&lang=en)
- If you cancel Uber One within 24 hours before the renewal day and the next payment has already processed, Uber issues an automatic refund. [Uber One terms](https://www.uber.com/legal/en/document/?name=renewable-passes-terms&country=united-states&lang=en)
- If Uber does not reverse a charge for a ride or order not provided as agreed, dispute it with your card issuer within 60 days after the first statement that shows it (rule `fcba-billing-error`). ## Traps and fine print

- Except where the law says otherwise, the Uber One charge is non-refundable once the billing cycle begins; free-trial benefits end immediately when you cancel. [Uber One terms](https://www.uber.com/legal/en/document/?name=renewable-passes-terms&country=united-states&lang=en)
- The Uber One page lists $9.99 a month, with a 4-week free trial for eligible first-time members. [Uber One](https://www.uber.com/us/en/uber-one/)
- Uber's Terms say charges are final and non-refundable unless Uber or the provider decides otherwise, and amounts for lost and found goods are non-refundable. [Uber U.S. Terms of Use](https://www.uber.com/legal/en/document/?name=general-terms-of-use&country=united-states&lang=en)

## Scams that target customers

- Uber says its employees will never contact you by email or phone to ask for your account information, including your password or email address. [Uber: keeping your account safe](https://help.uber.com/riders/article/keeping-your-uber-account-safe?nodeId=f05a47d0-f435-4872-91bc-6a36bcab668b)
- Phishing emails and texts link to a counterfeit Uber login page; check that the address bar shows https://www.uber.com before you sign in. [Uber: keeping your account safe](https://help.uber.com/riders/article/keeping-your-uber-account-safe?nodeId=f05a47d0-f435-4872-91bc-6a36bcab668b)
- Drivers and delivery people have received fake texts that claim to be from Uber and ask them to check their details on a fake site; Uber says never to click these links or give account information.
