## In short

Check your plan type before you cancel. Every Adobe plan is fully refunded if you cancel within 14 days of the initial order; after that, an "annual, billed monthly" plan charges a lump sum of 50% of the remaining contract (30% of the annual commitment in California). Cancel in your Adobe Account or through Customer Support. In March 2026 the Justice Department announced a proposed $150 million settlement over Adobe's early termination fee and cancellation process; it needs court approval.

## How complaints actually go

- Adobe's terms say you can cancel any time in your Adobe Account or by contacting Customer Support. [Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms](https://www.adobe.com/legal/subscription-terms.html)
- The terms point to Adobe Customer Support, the Help Center at helpx.adobe.com, for cancellation and refund help. [Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms](https://www.adobe.com/legal/subscription-terms.html)
- In June 2024 the Justice Department, on referral from the FTC, sued Adobe and two executives, alleging that Adobe hid the early termination fee for the "annual paid monthly" plan and made online and phone cancellation hard, in violation of ROSCA. [FTC press release, June 17, 2024](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2024/06/ftc-takes-action-against-adobe-executives-hiding-fees-preventing-consumers-easily-cancelling)
- On March 13, 2026 the Justice Department announced a proposed stipulated order: $75 million in civil penalties and $75 million in free services to customers. Adobe must disclose any early termination fee and how it is calculated before enrollment, remind customers before a free trial longer than seven days converts to a plan with that fee, and provide easy ways to cancel. The order takes effect only if the court enters it. ## What tends to work

- Cancel within 14 days of the initial order: Adobe's terms say "you'll be fully refunded" for monthly, annual billed monthly and annual prepaid plans. [Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms](https://www.adobe.com/legal/subscription-terms.html)
- If a rate change notice arrives, Adobe says it "will notify you of any rate change with the option to cancel"; on an annual billed monthly plan, ask Customer Support whether the early cancellation fee applies when you cancel because of the change. [Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms](https://www.adobe.com/legal/subscription-terms.html)
- If charges continue after you cancel, the FTC advises disputing them with your card company, following up in writing by certified mail with a return receipt, and reporting at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. [FTC: free trials, auto-renewals and subscriptions](https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/getting-and-out-free-trials-auto-renewals-and-negative-option-subscriptions)

## Traps and fine print

- Annual contract, billed monthly: cancel after 14 days and you are charged a lump sum of 50% of the remaining contract obligation; in California, 30% of the annual commitment. Service continues to the end of that month's billing period. [Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms](https://www.adobe.com/legal/subscription-terms.html)
- Monthly plans are non-refundable after 14 days, and annual prepaid plans are non-refundable after 14 days with service to the end of the term. [Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms](https://www.adobe.com/legal/subscription-terms.html)
- A free trial converts automatically: "At the end of your free trial, your subscription begins, and Adobe will automatically charge your payment method." [Adobe Subscription and Cancellation Terms](https://www.adobe.com/legal/subscription-terms.html)
- The Adobe Account plan page needs sign-in and a JavaScript browser, so an agent usually has to hand the cancellation to the person. [Adobe: manage your plan](https://www.adobe.com/go/acctmgmt_plan)

## Scams that target customers

- Report an email, website or pop-up that falsely claims to represent Adobe to phishing@adobe.com; psirt@adobe.com is only for security vulnerabilities in Adobe products.
